  2. Differentiation • Deer Canyon has opted to move away from G.A.T.E. clustering and has evenly dispersed G.A.T.E. students throughout each grade level. • Teachers are expected to differentiate for their gifted student.

  3. What Does Differentiation Look Like? • Each teacher is different. • In my classroom you can expect differentiation to occur in one of the following ways: • Acceleration • Depth • Complexity • Novelty

G.A.T.E. and Common Core • Increased Argument • Research with evidence from grade-appropriate text. • Grapple Regularly & Purposefully with Complex Texts • At least 50% Non-fiction! • Think Like a Researcher • Point of View • Grow Non-Cognitive Skills • Perseverance, Trial and Error, Persistence • Every Kid Speaks, Every Day! • Write Like Crazy

  6. G.A.T.E Opportunities • Students will meet on a monthly basis for an enrichment opportunity. • Field Trips & Activities (See schedule) • The school district hosts two district-wide events each year. • Activities & Chess Tournament • Saturday, October 11th • Spelling Bee • Tuesday, March 17th

  9. Evaluation • G.A.T.E parent, student and staff program evaluation surveys are conducted in April. • Your feedback is critical!
