  3. Text Purpose The author’s purpose is to inform of all the horrible things done in the slavery era. The intended audience is mostly students and teachers, because it can be used as a source for school lessons on slavery.

  4. Text Structure The book is made up of different excerpts from books, and other written documents. It helps you get a feel of the slavery era, because there are so many perspectives.

  5. Text Representation On page 24 to 26, which is an excerpt from pages 159 to 160, from the book Ball, the person who is talking is listing events in order, using transitions like “day by day” and “it was more than a week”.

  13. Reading Response On page 59, I can relate to the plantation thing, because my grandfather was taken as a slave during the Cuban Revolution era. He too, worked on a plantation, It gives a great description of the plantation scene, and makes you feel like you’re right there. On page 110, it talks about the “biggest parties being on Christmas”. This is funny because in my house, it’s the same. I felt like I were right at one of our parties. On page 126, it talks about slaves escaping, meaning there are somewhat happy endings in some cases. It made me feel kind of happy.
