  1. VICKI ZACK What’s A Literature Person Like You Doing Teaching And Researching In Elementary Level Mathematics? Le jeudi, 17 avril 2008 / Thursday, 17 April 2008 16h à 18h, 4:00 to 6:00 pm Pavillon Lamoureux, local 475 / Lamoureux Hall, Room 475 La présentation sera en anglais / The presentation is in English Des rafraîchissements seront servis / Light refreshments will be served Nous vous invitons à lire les documents additionnels disponibles sur cette présentation : We invite you to read the supporting documents before the presentation: Détails / details: www.meru-urem.ca/events.html This presentation centers around the research Vicki Zack did, as a teacher researcher, in her fifth-grade elementary classroom for twelve years. Her goal has been to study how learning is interactively accomplished, namely: How is mathematical meaning made, and shared? Beginning with a focus on children' explanations to their peers, Vicki extended her search to explore arguments, and the children's notions of convincing and proving. Vicki will use as an example a non-routine mathematical task, and show how the ensuing inquiry evolved.
