Program Description • Provide jobs with an educational component for talented new students • About 125 new positions • One-year appointments • $1000 per quarter = $3000 annual allocation • PSEP Resources available online through WWU employer area of SEC website • Check out the Supervisor’s Manual!

  3. Purpose of Program • Attract talented students to Western • Engage these students in ways beyond traditional student employment • Provide work experience and involvement associated with student’s area of career and major interest

  4. Eligibility Students Employers • New students • Highly talented • Recruitment has already been completed for the 2011-12 participants. • Non-auxiliary programs • State-funded/supported programs • Fee funded programs are encouraged to create parallel positions through rebasing or new funds.

  5. Expectations of students • Meet the needs of departments as identified in position description • Use e-portfolio to develop learning outcomes and reflect on learning experiences throughout the year • Manage quarterly and yearly allotment to ensure that they are not exceeded

Expectations of Employers • Provide job experience tied directly to student’s areas of academic or career interest • Assist the students to develop learning outcomes for their positions • Encourage student professional development outside of work • Review students’ e-portfolio and provide ongoing feedback • Manage quarterly and yearly allotment so they are not exceeded

  7. The Process • Job Description Submission & Approval • Receive student applications/resumes • Interview • Hiring Process • NOAEPAF • E-portfolio reflection of work experience and professional development • End-of-year Feedback and Assessment

Employment Details • Job Title: Distinguished Student Employee • Pay Rate: $9.00/hour • $1,000 quarter allotment, can carry remaining allocation to next quarter, but may not begin using next quarter’s allotment until the beginning of the next quarter • Employment Range: First day of fall quarter through end of finals spring quarter. • Not intended for break period employment

Hiring and EPAF • Complete Student Employee Information Form and Criminal Conviction Verification, if needed • I-9, W-4, Direct Depositcan be processed by HR • NTRROUT • Set up routing sequence • NOAEPAF – Setting up payroll • Approval Category: SEP100, 110, 120 • Position: SEP000-00 • Override Approver

  11. E-portfolio Instructions • Career Services Center • Students must create an account • Document Center • Create New Portfolio • Student reflect on professional development and work experience

Working Timeline • Departments begin posting positions ASAP • Sept – Admissions Begins Recruiting Students • Sept-mid-October • Students will begin viewing jobs and applying for positions • Sept 21 – First day PSEP employment can begin • Early October: Career Services will offer E-Portfolio workshops • End of fall quarter, mid & end of quarter winter and spring evaluations of E-Portfolios
