  1. Update on Faculty Effort Survey Department Administrators Meeting New York University School of Medicine January 9, 2007

  2. A. Summary of Activity to Date • Department Faculty Allocation Surveys were sent electronically to all department Administrators on December 22 and 28, 2006. • You should have received: • A department summary worksheet listing all SOM paid faculty members by department • Individual faculty worksheets • Detailed instructions for completing the worksheets • Guiding principles based on the Artman II policy for use when determining education effort

  3. B. Information Requested When returning the departmental summary worksheets, please include the following information that has been reviewed by each faculty member and confirmed by your Department Chair: • Faculty effort by mission • SOM Paid FTE status • Confirmation of lab research space

  4. C. Surveys Due by Monday January 29th • Please return them as soon as they are completed • Surveys are to be returned to David Church at david.church@nyumc.org • Contact the following with questions: • David Church (david.church@nyumc.org) and x33507 • Lisa Franciosa (lisa.franciosa@us.pwc.com) • Benjamin Price (benjamin.p.price@us.pwc.com)

  5. D. Questions & Answers • What do I do if there are faculty missing from my departmental listing and/or there are faculty listed on my summary who do not belong? • Contact David Church identifying what changes should be made and he will send updated worksheets and surveys. • NOTE: In most cases, a faculty member’s primary academic appointment was used. There are some exceptions.

  6. D. Questions & Answers (continued) • Why are the salary figures different than my budget? • The salaries are based on payroll data from 9/1/05 – 8/31/06 (FY06). • Only adjust the summary sheet if the salary is grossly in error and please notify David Church. • What if the pre-populated “Extramurally Funded Research” effort field is wrong? • In most cases, this should include your budgeted effort for extramurally funded grants. Please change the pre-populated funded research effort to reflect actual % effort on those extramurally funded grants.

  7. D. Questions & Answers (continued) • How do we denote resident teaching effort in the course of patient care? • If the patient care results in patient billing, consider it patient care. Exceptions include scheduled on-service attending duties specifically for resident teaching. • What about patient care effort at HJD? • Include this patient care effort in the Tisch section in Section II.K.

  8. D. Questions & Answers(continued) Additional questions Please complete by January 29 (or sooner!)
