  2. Introduction to AutoCAD AutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting software application. It was first time released by Autodesk in 1982 as a desktop app running on microcomputers with internal graphics controllers.

  3. 3D Co-ordinate systems Absolute 3D co-ordinate system: In this 3D co-ordinate systen, XY plane is assumed as parallel to the computer screen and +Z axis is assumed as perpendicular to the screen of the computer projecting outward.

  4. Relative cylindrical co-ordinate system: In this co-ordinate system, suppose we want to plot a point which is located at (4, <30, 5),then 5 is marked using relative cylindrical co-ordinate system. Then it is marked at 4 units from the last reference point along +x axis, 30 degrees from the x-axis measured.

  5. Relative spherical co-ordinate system: In this type of co-ordinate system, a point at (5,<30,<40 )is at 5 units from the last reference point along +x axis, 30 degrees from the x-axis measured in the anticlockwise direction in xy plane and 40 degrees up from xy plane.

  6. Types of 3D modelling Wire frame modelling In this type of modelling, objects are represented in 3D representation by using lines, arcs and circles. It is contains only edge details and therfore does not have surfaces. Only skeletal are shown.

  7. Surface modelling In this type of modelling 3D objects are represented by using opaque surfaces . The inner portion of the object is hollow. The details behind the surfaces are not shown.

  8. Solid modelling: In this type of modelling, 3D solid objects are is produced. It looks like a solid object which is made of wood. Hence it can be cut into pieces. Therefore it is easy to determine mass properties of solid models.
