  1. Historical Places In India With Great Significance India has a rich history and many historical places and famous buildings in India with a great significance and stories. There are several Indian historical places which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The list of historical places in India of great significance 1.Taj Mahal Situated in Agra was built during the reign of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife MumtazMahal. TajMahal is also called as the “Mecca of love”. With its mesmerizing beauty, this is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Tajmahal has the main gateway, a garden, a mosque, guest house and palatial buildings. Tajmahal appears pinkish at dawn, milky white in the evening and golden in the dark. The color change resembles the changing mood of a female. The four pillars of TajMahal are mild tilted outwards to prevent from falling on the Mahal if there is an earthquake. But there is a popular belief that Taj Mahal is a Hindu monument and Shah Jahan acquired it from a Hindu King Jai Singh. This is one of the most famous holiday destination in India. 2.Hawa Mahal This was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in Jaipur. It was fabricated to allow the royal ladies to look at the colourful processions on the busy streets of old Jaipur. This is made of pink and red sandstone with a layer of white quicklime. It has a unique honey-combed architecture and is a 5 storey building. WIth 953 windows it appears like a giant screen from outside.

  2. 3.Konark Sun Temple This was built by King Narasimhadeva I along the river Chandrabhanga. It has a shape of a chariot with 12 pairs of carved stone wheels, walls and pillars. The 7 horses are directed towards east. 12 symbolise the months of a year. There is a pair of lions in the temple, one either side of the entrance. 4.Sanchi Stupa Gautam Buddha invested 6 years in search of nirvana. Stupa is the burial ground of Lord Buddha; his body was divided into 8 pieces, every piece buried under solid moulds or Stupa. Emperor Ashok commissioned the cementing of Stupa. One such Stupa is located in Sanchi, Madhya Pradesh, India. Stupa has an umbrella-like apex design with multiple disks encircled by railings. There is no entrance to it; to pray to Buddha you can only walk the circular path around it. The Mauryan polish layer could survive the brunt of time and can still be spotted on Sanchi Stupa. 5.Victoria Memorial This is a huge building dedicated in remembrance of Queen Victoria and covered with white marble. You should never miss an opportunity to visit the hall there and observe the statues of learning, architecture, art, motherhood, justice, and Charity. Money for constructing came from British Government of London, independent and other states under British Raj. 6.Ajanta and Ellora Caves One of the most renowned historic palaces of India. They are the crown jewel among all Indian historical places. The presence of amazing paintings and sculptures add to its importance. The caves are near Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India. Works in the are associated with Jainism, Buddhism and Hinduism and some part of Buddhism.

  3. Ajanta Caves There is a collection of 29 caves and filled with various sculptures and paintings. The figures were made by simple tools like hammer and chisel. They are the proof of excellent thinking and craftsmanship of our ancestors. Ellora Caves There are 5 extra caves in Ellora; devoted equally to the gods of Jain, Hindu, and Buddhists.
