The Sulukule Renewal Project aimed to revitalize a historically significant Roma neighborhood in Istanbul, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From 2005 to 2012, this unique initiative sought to address the socio-economic challenges faced by the Roma community, which has roots dating back to the Byzantine Empire. Despite its rich cultural heritage and historical significance marked by the Theodosian Walls, the community has faced marginalization. This project highlights the intersection of urban development, civil society engagement, and the need for inclusive governance in addressing poverty in developing countries.
