What’s a competency? • Possession of required skill, qualification or capacity with a sufficient quantity • It’s the ability of an individual to do a job properly • it’s a set of measurable skills, abilities and character traits that identify successful employees against defined roles within an organization.
Why do we use competencies? • Recruiting employees • Selecting a current employee for a specific position • Enhancing the output of the employees • Allocation • Setting a training plan
And why do we recruit, select, allocate, train….etc.? May be to perform the daily operations in the company….to achieve our goals….goals we have set in the plan! And here comes the role of Talent planning!!!
When you analyze the gaps that we have in the organization and define what kind of people will fill this gap and where can we find them, this is Talent Planning in the simplest words! Example: 3andak koshk w 3ayez 7ad yo2af fyh, hatgyboezay?!
Conclusion: • Competencies are based on specific JD • Competencies are used even after recruitment • Competencies needs to be measurable!!!
But we can’t recruit just by setting some competencies…why? Competencies are generic, in order to be measured you need to break it down into measurable skills
