Insurance Requirement: • The University of Mississippi requires that allinternational students hold health insurance coverage, as well as medical evacuation and repatriation of remains insurance (“medevac”) • International = All non-USA citizens • This requirement does not apply to the following international students: • U.S. Permanent Residents • H-1 visa/status holders • Deferred Action Status

What does the Health Insurance Plan cover? • See the full plan details at www.aetnastudenthealth.com • In general: • 80% of negotiated charges for hospital visit, physician office visit (after $20 copay) or emergency room visit (after $100 copay) for preferred AETNA Network care providers • 100% of prescription drug coverage; after $10 copay for each generic drug; or $25 copay for brand name drugs. • 80% of inpatient mental health expenses • 50% of outpatient mental health and substance abuse expenses for preferred care providers. • Medical Evacuation and Repatriation • Maternity Benefits ; Family Planning • Natural Disaster and Political Evacuation • Coverage does not include: • Dental Check-Ups / Regular Cleaning / Cosmetic / and other procedures, etc. • Annual Eye Exams, etc.

  5. Tips: • Understand the terms • Beware of “inclusions/exclusions” • Know of cost differential for doctors inside / outside of “Network” • Familiarize yourself with what your insurance covers now. Don’t wait till you are ill!

How do I (international students) enroll in the health insurance plan? • Automatically upon registering for courses at UM. • By semester: • Spring semester at UM – Insurance Plan from January 15, 2016 to August 14, 2016 • Fall semester at UM = Insurance Plan from August 15, 2016 to January 14, 2017

  7. How much does the insurance plan cost (“premium”)? (Student Only) You are charged by term: • Fall:$ 756 August 15, 2016 – January 14, 2017 • Spring/Summer: $ 1,053 January 15, 2016 – August 14, 2016 Additional costs apply for spouse and/or children!

How do I pay for this health insurance coverage? • International students – undergraduate and graduate - who are subject to the AETNA requirement: - Billed to Bursar Account shortly after course registration. • International graduate students who hold Graduate Assistantships - Partial subsidy towards cost of insurance by the Department which offered you the Graduate Assistantship. • Remainder of the cost billed to (taken out of) your Graduate Assistantship stipend payments. http://gradschool.olemiss.edu/current-students/studenthealth-insurance/

  11. Type in Student ID and Date of Birth You may print the card as many times as you desire! It may be 2-3 weeks before your card is printable.

  12. I need to see a doctor. What about insurance ?Always bring a copy of your insurance card.Use Student Health Center on Campus first!Doctor in Network: - Pay your share; - Doctor will file the insurance claim on your behalf. - You will be billed for any balance not covered by the insurance policy.Doctor outside of Network:- You will need to file the insurance claim on your own. - Forms and instructions are available at AETNA website.- Always retain copies of all documentation.

  13. How do I get reimbursed for medical expenses?Example #1 1st Doctor/Hospital Visit • Total Cost: $2000. Who pays this? • Deductible of $500: you. • Co-pay of $20: you. • 80% of remaining cost (of $1480): $1184: insurance • Remaining cost: $296 – you 2nd Doctor/Hospital Visit (in same year, prior to August 14) • Total Cost: $3000. Who pays this? • Deductible of $500: was already paid for the year (see above). • Co-pay of $20: you. • 80% of remaining cost (of $2980): $2384: insurance • Remaining cost: $596 – you

  14. Example #2 1st Doctor/Hospital Visit • Total Cost: $200. Who pays this? • You would pay the full $200 as part of the $500 deductible for the insurance year. 2nd Doctor/Hospital Visit (in same year, prior to August 14) • Total Cost: $3000. Who pays this? • You would pay $300 in deductible as part of the $500 total deductible for the year. $200 was already paid (see above). • Co-pay of $20: you. • 80% of remaining cost (of $2680): $2144: insurance • Remaining cost: $536 – you

  15. ** Remember ** If you seek services from the University Health Center before you have evidence of the AETNA insurance. • For TB X-Rays • For Immunizations • For personal illness • Etc. Then go back to the Health Center with evidence of your AETNA Insurance Coverage and ID Number as soon as you have it, so the Health Center may file your claims. If you forget to do so, claims cannot be filed against your coverage. This means you will pay the full cost of health services.

  16. I don’t want this insurance! Can I be exempted from this policy?“No”. Except:- Who meets a particular exemption category.
