  2. Overview • All grades meet twice a week for 30 minutes each time • except for Kindergarten which meets once a week. • All students, including those in the Mid-Valley program, • experience music by: • Listening • Singing • Playing instruments • Moving

Kindergarten • In the primary grades, our Making Music curriculum focuses on: • Steady beat • Pitch (high/low) • Tempo (fast/slow) • Dynamics (loud/soft) 1st Grade Expressive singing nurtured and encouraged Experiment with different ways to use voice Introduction to drama in music First grade Music Informance

  4. 3rdgrade 2nd grade • Begin to read music with Orff instruments (xylophones) • Use music books to follow printed melodies • Assessed through singing games and activities • Tea for Two concert in May Introduction to the families of instruments Emphasis on vocal technique Formal tonal and rhythmic assessments Open House Night Informance

  5. 5th grade 4th grade Learn to play recorder Examine musical styles and cultures Continue to study the instruments of the orchestra Formal concert near the end of the year World drumming unit, including an African drum circle Prepare for middle school band and chorus Grades based on participation, effort and written tests Choral Festival at Kaneland High School in May
