  1. Full Chain Tests Adriano Lai A report on the Full Chain Tests recently performed at LNF Starring: Walter R., Valerio, Sandro C., Rafael, Alessandro B., Adriano

  2. The place Adriano Lai A large experimental hall (2x3 m2) with all possible comforts Some facilities: Happy operators Off-the-shelf components Spare monitors Spectators’ chairs (for guided tours) Automated wheeled table Lumber room

  3. Test components and setup Adriano Lai Pattern generator Input to the chain were given either by a Pattern Generator (12 channels) or via the “pattern facility” inside DIALOG When given by the PG the other channels were masked inside DIALOG 12 channels TTL-LVDS board DIALOG KVASER board DIALOG DIALOG 32 channels DIALOG NI interface ODE BP PWR SB PC (console) TB D-Router x4 IB 8 channels CLKgen Scope Opt-Rx 3 channels TB TTCvi NIM LVDS-NIM ODE TTCvx Power Supply NI interface VME

  4. Step 1 Adriano Lai • 4 DIALOG on the same branch (same ELMB), • 1 SB (out crate) • 4 DIALOG on the same branch, 1 SB (in crate) • 4 DIALOG in 2 different branches • Cables of very different lengths (from few cm to 15 m) • Tested using programmable patterns on DIALOG •  Unused inputs may cause noise on outputs … Test program accessing DIALOG via KVASER and SB

  5. Step 2 Adriano Lai • TB and IB • 4 DIALOG 8 outputs each (32 channels to IB) • OR2 on DIALOG • OR4 on IB (M2R3 style – “worm” order!) channels 0,1 … 7 • 8 outputs from IB (3 out of seen on the scope) ORs (pulses on different DIALOG outputs are delayed by 25 ns one with respect to the other) Time Re-aligned ORs (by DIALOG) Time Re-aligned and shaped ORs (by DIALOG)

  6. Note Adriano Lai TB connectors M2R3 The “OR-ing”scheme in the IB is not trivial … By the way: Do you know that DIALOG can make OR ONLY starting from corresponding CARIOCA channels ?? 0 – 0 1 – 1 2 – 2 … 7 – 7 (see 1st DIALOG note, since 2001, and further releases …) We hope you know …

  7. Step 3 Adriano Lai • ODE (and its TB) inserted (7 SYNC-b plugged on) • 8 IB outputs were given to the ODE • The inputs were moved among different ODE (SYNC) inputs and • the relevant channel histograms (inside SYNC) read back • directly by the internal ELMB

  8. Step 4 Adriano Lai • The OptRx board is inserted in the chain • Data written on the L0 derandomizer (random trigger) are read • by the ODE controller and sent to the OptRx via the optical link • Data are read from the OptRx interface and visualized (correctly) • on the PC screen • A few combinations were tested

  9. Conclusions and Plans Adriano Lai • The chain test went reasonably well • All the prototypes and the all the one-to-one modules’ connections were already deeply tested so: • Time was spent more to cure minor “linking” setup problems than debugging conceptually the system • Further steps: •  test of the L0 trigger transmission (we need a simple trigger emulator or a better PG) •  test the ODE in its full equipped setup (24 SYNC on the board) •  Load the crates with a higher number of boards to test if problems on the back-plane arise •  Insert the FE boards on the chain or even a complete chamber (without gas at the beginning) •  test the L0 trigger receiver (Marseille) •  test with chamber and cosmic rays • This tests have to be concluded by next June • We need a safe (and large enough) place to install “permanently” the chain. • The larger efforts are in setting-up all the connections every time we start a new test. • The installed chain have to be constantly available to add and test new pieces of the system. • The possibility of a remote connection would be opportune. • Cannot LNF find a better logistic solution (in short time) ? • Should we look for another place ?
