  2. What we’ve seen so far: • Book opens with Robert Walton on a ship in the north seas, trying to find a passage from the Atlantic to Pacific Ocean. • He also wants discover the secret of magnetism. • He suffers from the problem of pursuing glory at all costs.

  3. The ship gets stranded in fog and an ice patch. • When the fog clears, they see the monster on a sled. It’s a strange sight. • Then they see Victor, adrift on a large piece of ice. • They bring him on board, he becomes good friends with the captain, and begins his story.

  4. Now, Frankenstein begins his story: • He was born to wonderful parents who made his life very pleasant. • His Dad-Alphonse Frankenstein. • Alphonse married his good, dead friend’s daughter, Caroline Beaufort. • She was a loving, caring mom. • They take into their care an orphan, Elizabeth Lavenza, to raise.

  5. Another son, William, is born. • Elizabeth, Victor, and best friend Henry Clerval spend all their days together in complete joy. Victor loves science and reads constantly, but he reads old, archaic science books that dream of “the elixir of life.” • He grows up and decides to go to Ingolstadt, Germany to school.

  6. Elizabeth gets Scarlet fever, and mother nurses her back to health. • Mother gets Scarlet fever. • Before she dies, Mother makes Victor promise to marry Elizabeth. • Mother dies, Victor goes to Ingolstadt, Elizabeth takes the mother’s role at the house.

  7. Victor loves school. • He becomes best student, spends nights studying. • Gathers body parts, and puts together a being that he will bring to life with electricity. • One night he succeeds and creature comes to life.

  8. Victor is now repulsed by his creature, and leaves his apartment to wander in the rain and storm. • He is discovered by Henry Clerval, who has finally decided to come to Ingolstadt as well for school. • They go back to Victor’s apartment.

  9. Victor is afraid the monster will be there, but he is gone. • Victor has a nervous breakdown. • Henry nurses him back to health. • 2 years later after creating the monster, and 6 years after he left home, Victor is making plans to get back to Geneva to see his family. • Just before they leave, a letter comes from home that brother William has been killed.

  10. They go home to help find William’s body. • Victor sees the monster in a storm, and knows he did it. • A live-in girl and family friend, Justine Moritz, is accused of the crime because Mom’s necklace that William was carrying, was found on her.
