  1. 1st ISC Meeting of Editors-in Chief of Research JournalsShiraz, Islamic Republic of Iran23-24 October, 2012 Dr. JafarMehrad President of RICeST & ISC

  2. Scopus & Thomson Reuters 1. Both systems are highly reputed and index many number of international authoritative journals: Scopus about twenty thousand and Thomson Reuters around ten thousand research journals.

  3. 2. Although the systems have different approaches regarding citation analysis, both have significant roles in evaluating the scientific performance of countries.

  4. 3. These two systems have considered mostly English language journals, and recently journals that are published in languages other than English are included in SCOPUS and Thomson Reuters.

  5. 4. Both systems have abstracting and indexing services.

  6. ISC 1. As I pointed out, ISC does not have more than 5 years of experience. 2. Islamic countries fully support ISC and this support is of utmost importance.

  7. 3. Lately, a number of non-Islamic countries such as Germany, England, India, and Poland have expressed their interest to get their journals indexed in ISC.

  8. 4. The entrance of the journals of non-Islamic countries to ISC has caused ISC to pass and go beyond the borders of Islamic World ,and consequently turn into an international indexing system.

  9. 5. ISC is multilingual and full text system that this strong point makes it different from the two other systems i.e. SCOPUS and Thomson Reuters.

  10. Accordingly, ISC pursues its expansion and growth in several aspects:

  11. 1. Scientific Persian Journals (since 1999) were studied and analyzed in different ISC systems and products.

  12. 2. Research Arabic journals of Islamic countries (since 2005) were indexed and processed in different products of ISC.

  13. 3. In the third stage, Iran and other countries’ English scientific journals (since 2005), were processed and analyzed.

  14. 4. Indexing and processing Turkish, Indonesian, Malay, French and other national languages are ISC’s next citation analysis priorities, which is being planned and along with the development of ISC’s organization, will be implemented one after another.

  15. 5. ISC incorporates a number of sub-systems each targeting a specific objective. Having the ISC services at their disposal, the OIC countries may take the opportunity to utilize such services to instigate research-scientific cooperation within and between their countries.

  16. 6. ISC also enables scientific mapping of OIC universities with the objective to clarify the current research and scientific status of each member state. This sort of scientific mapping is a great help in production of map of science in the Islamic world.
