  1. PGES Time Management Ideas for Principals

  2. Time Management • Let’s discuss the statement, • “PGES takes too much time!” • How can you weave PGES into those things that you already do?

  3. Scheduling Schedule early and don’t procrastinate! Schedule Observations ahead of time for the year! Put observations and pre/post conference on the schedule Spread your observations and pre/post conferences out Schedule conferences in Outlook and send invitations to teachers Stick to your schedule and guard your times Email calendar out ahead of time (Everyone Knows)

  4. Scheduling Continued • Spread your staff out in their summativesso you don’t have them all in one year • Have regular meetings once a month with teachers to support the process Stay in teacher’s room to clean up evidence before going back to your office

  5. Conferences • Provide questions to teachers before you meet • Model a conference for all teachers so that they can see the types of questions that will be asked • Complete preconference over email if approved in CEP

  6. Framework • Know the framework • Provide training so the teachers have a better understanding of framework

  7. Observation • Share Danielson Observation videos to teachers and leveled vocabulary and let teachers discuss scores • Pick specific areas tofocus on in domains 2 and 3 instead of trying to look at everything • Narrow down minis to a single component- either from the teachers PGP or decided on in the preconference

  8. Scripting_______________________________ • After scripting, highlight evidence in different colors for different domains • Create a scripting sheet; one side is what teacher says and the other side is what the student says • Find scripting best practices that works best for you • Use a computer to type and script • Scripting form with components listed and spaces to fill in evidence • Video the lesson

  9. Scripting Continued • Send your scripted evidence to teachers 24 to 48 hours before post conference for them to score • Empower teachers to use scripted evidence and assign to components and score

  10. Domains 1 & 4 Have teachers provide their accomplished (or best) evidence for Domains 1 & 4 Have teachers bring artifacts from Domain 1 to the preconference and Domain 4 for the post conference Have teachers collect throughout the year and upload evidence for Domains 1 & 4 as an artifact Use PLC process to evaluate Domains 1 & 4. Develop a protocol for this.

  11. Overall process Use Professional Learning to get teachers ready for each step of the process Don’t stress teacher out- stress the idea that it is a learning process for all Do the process together as a staff Use faculty meetings to share small chunks of PGES in order to reduce frustration Use morning email to focus on specific component in the framework

  12. Remember….. • PGES is an EFFECTIVENESS system – supporting and growing teachers • It is still based on your PROFESSIONAL JUDGEMENT!
