  2. Google Search Console is currently undergoing experiment with a new type of web property that has all the protocol and subdomain variations for a specific domain. Google calls this type of new property a Domain property. Quick recall! It was last October when we discussed a Google update called Query site ranks via Google Search Console, which refers to website owners and developers keeping track of data traffic through the use of site queries. Here, we mentioned about Google Search Console, which is a tool used to optimise a page for improvement. So in this new Google update, we’ll talk further about its relevance to SEO.

  3. What exactly is a domain property? According to Google, domain property refers to a new domain or subdomain fragment that has no protocol or path. That means the data for all subdomains, subpaths or protocols get compressed for that property. Let’s say if you define a Domain property as “site.com”, it includes site.com or any subdomains of site.com, as well as subpaths in any of these domains, both on https and HTTP. However, this feature is not yet available to all the users of Google Search Console so not everyone can see this and they said that this is an experimental feature for selected invitations only. It’s not possible to ask or request participation for a trial run.

  4. Now, these domains are created by Google for you. Google said, “At present, you cannot create a new Domain property. If you have been invited to participate in a limited test, you will have a domain created for you.” So it seems that once the feature has been thoroughly tested and released, webmasters will be given by Google an opportunity to create their own. In the meantime, not all the current reports within Google Search Console will work with domain properties and are unavailable since it is available only in the new version. The old version still supports the old property’s set of features.

  5. The reason why this new update matter is Google Search Console requires you to verify every domain property and gives you data, notifications and analytics about each property. This new feature means fewer confusions with the non-www versus www, the HTTP versus https, the m- dot versus the non-m-dot, because they will all have their data, analytics and notifications. Therefore, this feature will give you a more holistic picture of how your site is performing in SEO, wrapping it all up in a single look. This update shows that Google is making Google Search Console even smarter with its new version.
