  2. There are a lot of opinions concerning the future of search. There are people who believe that the future of search and search ads will not involve typing into a search bar. Some say the future is voice; others say it’s mobile. Then there are some who believe it is image, rather than keywords. You see, most of the times when consumers search for things on the internet, they use keywords or words used for meta tags. However, with image search consumers can use images alone without the need to input keywords to look for information regarding the image used for a search. According to Search Engine Journal, Pinterest’s CEO Ben Silbermann claims the future of search will be about pictures.

This is changing the search marketing landscape. The emergence of visual search technology will likely shape our search habits over the years. SEO professionals should prepare for the possible upcoming future.

Reverse image search,  as defined by Search Engine Journal, refers to “the search type where you don’t need keywords at all; instead just need to provide a base image for the search engine to find more images like that one”. It is a content- based image retrieval query technique where users provide the search engine with a sample image that will be the base of the search. The sample image is what formulates a search query, removing the need for users to provide keywords or terms that may or may not provide the wanted result. It allows users to discover content related to the sample image, like manipulated or derivative versions of the image.
