Summary of the scene • Iago is really ambiguous when he speaks to Othello and pretends to reassure him • Iago then leaves Othello to his thoughts • Othello praises Iago for being an honest man then reflects on his relationship with Desdemona • Othello tries to look for reasons as to why Desdemona would be unfaithful • He concludes Desdemona is lost to him and that he must hate her • Emila steals Desdemona’s handkerchief • Iago tells Othello that Desdemona and Cassio slept together (but he did not tell him it was Cassio’s dream) • Emilia gives Iago Desdemona’s handkerchief to win his approval

Quotes • “you have a thing for me?” – interrogative • “To have a foolish wife” – view of women • “What handkerchief!” – exclamative pg.309 • “good wench” – wench makes women seem like objects pg 314 • Enjambment to illustrate the intensity of the conversation • Perhaps Iago is not his real self around Emilia • “poison” – repetition.
