The American Revolutionary War was driven primarily by Britain's policy of salutary neglect, which left the colonies largely to their own devices. This neglect fueled tensions, escalated by various acts imposed by Britain, such as the Sugar Act and Stamp Act. Key events like the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party galvanized colonial dissent. The war strategies, including isolation efforts in New England and sweeping tactics from the south, ultimately failed for the British. As the conflict progressed, factions emerged, with Patriots and Loyalists showcasing differing paths toward independence.
