  8. Safety, Match & Reach By the end of Junior year, students should have 5 - 8 schools under consideration. This allows for some flexibility in choice of major, career plans, and potential for financial aid. “SAFETY” schools – academic and/or financial (1-2) “MATCH” schools – “hard data” fits the general admissions criteria of the school. (2-4) “REACH” schools – “hard data” falls slightly short of the school’s average acceptance admissions criteria. (1-2)

Massachusetts Schools Admissions Requirements: Required Courses: Match our graduation requirements Required Grades: The required minimum average grade for the State Colleges and Universities is an 83 (B-). You will receive extra credit for Advanced Placement courses. The GPA calculated by the college will be different than the GPA of your high school. Test Scores: For students with a GPA of 3.0 or above, the college reserves the right to additional criteria, such as a minimum SAT/ACT. For those students with a GPA below 3.0, the following sliding scalemay be applied:

What Now? • Search for Colleges via Naviance • Complete Resume for Letters of Rec. • Plan/ask your recommenders in person • Visit colleges over April Vacation, weekends, summer vacation • Sign up for SAT/ACT for June • SAT June 4 (May 5 deadline) • ACT June 11 (May 6 deadline) • Prepare for standardized testing • Create appropriate email address • Make sure social media is private and secure
