Landcare Research

Landcare Research oversees the management of 25 nationally significant biological collections and databases. These include CHR with 600,000 plant collections, PDD for fungi with 80,000 entries, and NZAC housing 6.5 million arthropod specimens. The informatics team, comprising 30 staff members, specializes in biodiversity informatics, geospatial computing, and remote sensing, ensuring integrated data management through taxonomic backbones. Efforts include digitization, text parsing, and the production of NZ’s version of the Biodiversity Heritage Library, supporting ecological analysis and data accessibility.
