As we face significant economic challenges with $20 billion deficits through at least 2012, unions must adapt to the reality of concessionary bargaining. Politicians and the public expect continued efforts from us, and our members are stepping up, with over 30,000 participating in nearly 300 actions. While state negotiators have backed off some demands, including reductions in vacation accruals and pension contributions, significant concessions remain. We aim for a long-term contract that secures our members' rights and benefits, balancing salary increases, holiday considerations, and pension adjustments.
