  2. A “Sound” Church • Sometimes brethren will look for a “sound” church to attend on vacation, a move, etc. • Are we a “sound” church? (Answer again after the lesson!)

  3. A “Sound” Church( Our Standard ) • A church that has a good reputation • A church that bears the name “church of Christ” • A church that does not engage in “liberalism” or “institutionalism” • A church that does not use instruments • A church that does not teach error on M-D-R

  4. A “Sound” Church( Our Standard ) • A church may be “sound” (or “conservative”) because of the above, but those things alone do not determine “soundness” (Lk. 18:11) • Consider the church at Corinth, was it “sound” (1 Cor. 1-15)? • Consider the churches of Asia, were they “sound” (Rev. 2-3)

  5. A “Sound” Church( The Bible Definition ) • “Sound” (Gr. hugies, hugiano) means healthy, whole, uncorrupt (Eng. “hygiene”) • The NT speaks of “sound”… • Doctrine (1 Tim. 1:10; 2 Tim. 4:3; Tit. 1:9; 2:1) • Words (1 Tim. 6:3; 2 Tim. 1:13) • Faith (Tit. 1:13; 2:2) • Speech (Tit. 2:8)

A “Sound” Church( God’s Standard ) • A church that is organized scripturally (Acts 14:23; Phil. 1:1) • A church that worships scripturally (Jn. 4:24) • A church that works scripturally: evangelism, edification, benevolence (1 Cor. 15:58; Eph. 2:10) • A church that upholds all truths (1 Tim. 3:15)

  7. A “Sound” Church( God’s Standard ) • A church that demands truth (2 Tim. 4:2-4) • A church that is disciplined with pure and faithful members (Phil. 2:15; 2 Thess. 3:6) • A church that is active in its membership (Rom. 12:4-8; Eph. 4:16)

  8. A “Sound” Church • A church that teaches and practices all that the Lord authorizes and only what the Lord authorizes is “sound” • Are we a “sound” church (2 Cor. 13:5)?
