  5. GRADING SCALE STANDARDS-BASED GRADING AUTHENTIC WORK TO SHOW PROFICIENCY. RUBRICS FOR GRADING 3 IS MASTERING GRADE LEVEL 4 IS DIFFICULT TO ACHIEVE.

  6. Grading and assignment policies • All work is expected to be finished on the date it is due unless there are circumstances beyond your control or there are legally documented accommodations in place.​ • To get an extension past the due date, students must ask for a meeting to present the reason they need more time.  This needs to be done before the due date.​ 1-6 Days Late: Receive a 1-4 Grade 7-13 Days Late: Receive a 1-2 Grade 14 Days Late: Receive a 1 Grade We will not accept anything after 2 weeks • If students are missing work, then we will communicate home to find out what is getting in the way of completing assignments

  7. HOMEWORK POLICY Typically, Westgate students do not have school work to complete at home. We want them to have time to be kids, spend time with family, and pursue other passions. Exceptions to this norm are:​ When a student has make-up work from absences,​ When extra practice is needed to become proficient in a skill,​ When a student has been unproductive during their class time,​ 4. When there is a special “at home project.” ​ ​ ​ ​

ADVOCACY • BUILD HEALTHY, STRONG, SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH PEERS AND TRUSTING ADULT. • RECOGNITION OF COMMUNITY (CLASS, POD, SCHOOL, …) • ENGAGE IN ACTIVITIES THAT SUPPORT SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL GROWTH, CAREER READINESS, AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT. • OPPORTUNITIES FOR POSITIVE PEER INTERACTIONS, LIFE SKILLS, AND DEVELOPMENT AND COACHING TO OVERCOME EDUCATIONAL, PERSONAL, AND SOCIAL BARRIERS FOR SUCCESS.

  9. 7th Grade literacy • My goal as your student’s 7th grade literacy teacher is to nurture a love for life-long learning. I will accomplish this through lessons and topics that your student finds relevant, challenging, and interesting and in a way that is accessible for their learning style. • I value relationships with my students- I feel that students are more likely to learn in an environment that they feel safe and welcome in. As a 21st century teacher, it is my duty to mold a productive member of society; therefore, I use my curriculum to build life skills. ​​

  10. 7th Grade Literacy • 10 minutes free choice, silent read • 5 minutes of journal prompt response • Individual, partner, and group work • Projects, Socratic seminars, pbl assessments, academic discourse, workshops

  11. 8th Grade social studies • My goal as your student’s 8th Grade Social Studies teacher is to nurture a love for life-long learning.
