Gal 2:6-10 Paul & Peter and the Gospel - Part 1

In Galatians 2:6-10, Paul explains that the reputation or status of individuals makes no difference in the Gospel. Those of high reputation contributed nothing to him, and he was entrusted with the Gospel to the uncircumcised just as Peter was entrusted with it to the circumcised. James, Cephas, and John, who were considered pillars, gave Paul and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship. They only asked them to remember the poor, which Paul was eager to do.

Gal 2:6-10 Paul & Peter and the Gospel - Part 1 6 But from those who were of high reputation (what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality) - well, those who were of reputation contributed nothing to me. 7 But on the contrary, seeing that I had been entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been to the circumcised 8 (for He who effectually worked for Peter in his apostleship to the circumcised effectually worked for me also to the Gentiles), 9 and recognizing the grace that had been given to me, James and Cephas and John, who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, so that we mightgo to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. 10 They only asked us to remember the poor—the very thing I also was eager to do.

  6. 7 But on the contrary, [ seeing that I had been entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been to the circumcised seeing (having seen) - oida - to know by perception I had been entrusted – pisteuō - to believe, also to be persuaded of, and hence, to place confidence in, to trust Vine other verses: 1Thess 2:4, 1 Tim 1:11, 1 Tim 6:20 & 2Tim 1:12 the gospel to the uncircumcised Peter had been (entrusted with gospel) to the circumcised

  7. 8 (for He who effectually worked for Peter in his apostleship to the circumcised effectually worked for me also to the Gentiles), Subject = He who effectually worked for Peter in his apostleship to the circumcised Verb = effectually worked - energéō - to work, be active, produce an effect other verses: Eph 1:20, Eph 3:20, Phil 2:13 & Col 1:29 for me (Paul) also to the Gentiles

  8. 9 and recognizing the grace that had been given to me,] James and Cephas and John, who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, so that we mightgo to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. recognizing “the grace” that had been given to me recognizing - ginōskō - signifies "to be taking in knowledge, to come to know had been given - didōmi - to give, grant, bestow upon “grace given” in scripture: Rom 12:3, 1 Cor 1:4, Eph 3:8 & 4:7

  9. 10 They only asked us to remember the poor—the very thing I also was eager to do. “to remember the poor” remember - mnēmoneuō - to call to mind, remember poor - ptōchós - from ptōssō to crouch, cower like a beggar What kind of poor is he talking about? What scripture says about the poor: Jn 12:8, Matt 26:11 Lk 16:20, 2 Cor 6:10, Lk 19:8 & Jam 2:2-6
