  1. CSMM working group Reservation systems

  2. The problem • The times where we could use one central videoconferencing reservation system (such as DCS) to act as a room reservation system are definitely over • Although the proliferation of individual systems somehow seems to deny it, the need to have a comprehensive reservation (management?) system won’t go away • Factors arise that make things worse • The multiplication of central resource reservation systems augments the competition for the same shared end user resource (ECS, VACS, VRVS to name a few) • Irruption of ad-hoc offerings will add a lot of confusion • More generally, giving more control to the end user, which is a good thing per se, implies to provide simultaneously more easy to use and comprehensive information systems Christian Helft, LAL-IN2P3-CNRS CSMM Working Group Meeting 0

  3. The solutions? • At the very least, an easy (and I mean easy) to reach planning of the resources you’re not having exclusive right to use • Ideally, each such shared resource would be managed by a scheduling system that interact with every other that may want to book it • Obviously, some protocol has to be used for that. Does it exists yet ? • In the short term, mail could be used as the transport layer of this information • What about Web services ? Christian Helft, LAL-IN2P3-CNRS CSMM Working Group Meeting 0
