  1. FAMILY KICK-OFF BANQUET

  2. Why are we here?

  3. The youth ministry exists to glorify God by helping to lead the next generation into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

  4. HOW CAN WE DO THIS?By partnering with and empowering parents to embrace and fulfill their God-given role as the primary disciplers of their children.

  5. DEUTERONOMY 6:1-9 6 “Now this is the commandment—the statutes and the rules—that the Lord your God commanded me to teach you, that you may do them in the land to which you are going over, to possess it, 2 that you may fear the Lord your God, you and your son and your son's son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be long. 3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do them, that it may go well with you, and that you may multiply greatly, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8  You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

  6. What do we do? Not a problem that can be fixed in a month 1- Show them your relationship with Jesus 2- Have intentional spiritual conversations 3- Pray for them and with them 4- Have spiritual goals for our families

  7. What will be the difficulties? 1- It’s not easy and you won’t do it perfectly 2- To truly follow Jesus as a family, you will have to make DAILY counter-cultural decisions -- will feel ostracized and ridiculed -- you will feel alone -- your kids will at times be angry with you and fight you on it 3- It will cause us to sacrifice something -- What will you put on the altar for the spiritual life of your kids? -- Popularity, Sports, Grades, “Right” College

  8. HOPE 1- YOU CAN DO IT!!! -- You are the only one who can 2- IT IS NEVER TOO LATE 3- It will impact this generation and beyond 4- IT IS MORE ABOUT JESUS THAN YOU -- not by your effort but by His Grace 5- IT’S WORTH IT!!! -- Will have kingdom and eternal impact

  9. HOW WE CAN HELP PARENTS -- Pray for you -- monthly by name -- Help facilitate spiritual conversations -- Family Devotion Curriculum -- Questions about talks for you -- Provide encouragement and support -- Youth Parent Lunches -- Open doors for you

  10. HOW WE CAN HELP Students -- Teach and train them how to: -- Reach out– Quest, 3 Degrees, True North -- Think– Compass -- Do Life Together– Small Groups and Life Groups -- Pray– Tuesday Morning Prayer -- Serve– REP and Youth Visions
