  2. Positive Press: Quotes "They'll find that in fact this is a very intriguing business," said David Rodriguez, executive vice president for global human resources at Marriott, speaking about the game, which is making its debut this week on Facebook. The game "will demystify it.“ "That's why our game is so appealing," Ms. Strayer said. "Not only am I having fun but I'm actually getting an understanding of what it takes to run a kitchen. " "The hotelier's foray into social gaming may be the most sophisticated embrace of social media yet for an industry that has found it an increasingly important way to connect with potential guests and guard their reputation." "Yes, this is Marriott. I was as surprised as you are! I usually expect one of the hipper companies to come out with this stuff first, so when I read about it on HotelChatter I rushed right over to Facebook to check it out. Boy, was I impressed! You never know where innovation will come from. As I mentioned, I was surprised to see Marriott making such a bold move, since they are typically more conservative. ...(Marriott's) philosophy was to let others go first and then come behind them and do it better. In this case, at least as far as I know, Marriott went first, and they did it brilliantly. I won’t discount a more conservative culture’s ability to be creative as quickly again." “Nice animation, cutesie sound track, got to pick my own manager (showing a nice diversity of selections!), cute grilling noises as my food orders in ‘my kitchen’ are being cooked. Overall, I was impressed by themes sophistication and multi-layered engagement. Kudos to Marriott and Susan Strayer and David Rodriguez for taking a risk. I think people will be buzzing about this game!” “Marriott’s marketing plan seems to be to use this game to draw in prospective employees, with the option to ‘Do It For Real’ as a tab in the game. This takes you to the Marriott’s careers page to apply for a job. Overall, it’s a simple, yet addictive game. It is also a great example of how large companies are using Facebook and gaming to promote themselves and recruit employees. “
