  2. Media affects our society consciously and subconsciously • We are bombarded with 400-600 images per day, and see 40-50 million by the age of 60. • Learning media & visual literacy skills helps us to be better critical thinkers.

Some key points about media messages... • Media messages are “constructed.” The images that you see on TV commercials and in magazine ads are NOT real, they’re created. • Media messages are constructed for corporate gain and profit. They encourage you as a consumer to take action and buy what you see.

  4. Chances are, if you buy a Big Mac at MacDonald’s, it probably looks something like this...

  5. But, MacDonald’s makes it look like this on their T.V. commercial...

  6. By using these ingredients...

  7. The media often distorts our perception of “REAL” by making not-so-perfect things appear “PERFECT”...

  8. Did you know...

  9. Models, Superstars, and Actors: Not so “perfect” either. We “construct” them too...
