Impact • Through funding received from the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), the SHPE Foundation is extending 50 SHPE university and professional chapters an award to start a SHPE Jr. Chapter in a local high school.  • Your SHPE chapter will be making an impact on young Hispanic students by introducing them to STEM and setting them up for an exciting STEM education and career.  • Your chapter will be directly contributing to the success of SHPE’s Strategic Goal 1: Economic & Technological Position.

Guidelines • The award provides $205.00 to support the new SHPE Jr. Chapter in targeted states in Regions 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6. • This funding can be used for food, activities, or other approved items to facilitate the Jr. Chapter.  • In order to qualify for funding the target high school cannot already have a SHPE Jr. Chapter in place.  • The SHPE Foundation will provide the sponsoring university or professional SHPE Chapter with monthly activities for the SHPE Jr. Chapter meetings and additional support as needed.

Guidelines • Additionally, the NAVSEA funding will support a SHPE Jr. Chapter Advisor, who is a teacher at the high school.  The SHPE Jr. Chapter Advisor will receive a $300 stipend for serving as an advisor during the first year of implementation of the SHPE Jr. Chapter. • Name • Phone Number • Email Address • Mailing Address

Timeline • Nov 9, 2012: Jr. Chapter Proposal Due* (availability will remain open until all 50 chapters have been confirmed) • Nov 23, 2012: First Disbursement of Award ($102.50) Sent to SHPE Chapter • Nov 23, 2012: SHPE Jr. Chapter Advisor (teacher at high school) Confirmed* • Nov 30, 2012: Stipends Sent to SHPE Jr. Chapter Advisors • Present to May 2013: SHPE Jr. Chapter Meetings Conducted** * indicates to be submitted by SHPE university or professional chapter.  ** indicates to be submitted by SHPE university or professional chapter and SHPE Jr. Chapter advisor.

  11. Why the Charter is Important • By completing the charter the SHPE Foundation will recognize the high school as an official affiliation of SHPE

  13. Jr. Chapter Charter Application • The SHPE Jr. Chapter board must be determined prior to submission of the SHPE Jr. Chapter Charter application • 4 students with a 3.0 or above GPA • President • Vice-President • Secretary • Treasurer

  14. Student Demographic Form • Demographic information form will be required for each member • Age, grade, family information, classes taken, GPA…

  15. Membership Application Form • A membership application form must be submitted for each member • Must be signed by the parent/guardian if student is a minor

  16. Liability Release / Photographic Consent • Liability release and photographic consent form must be completed by student (and parent if student is a minor) • Sample letter to parents and guardians is included in the application
