  4. Definitions: Content Type Two-Dimensional Moving Images Content expressed through images intended to be perceived as moving, in two dimensions. Includes motion pictures (using live action and/or animation), film and video recordings of performances, events, etc., video games, etc., other than those intended to be perceived in three dimensions

  5. Definitions: Content Type Three-Dimensional Moving Image Content expressed through images intended to be perceived as moving, in three dimensions. Includes 3-D motion pictures (using live action and/or animation), 3-D video games, etc. Cartographic Moving Image Cartographic content expressed through images intended to be perceived as moving, in two dimensions. Includes satellite images of the Earth or other celestial bodies in motion.

Preferred Source of Information 2.2.2.3 Resources Consisting of Moving Images • Title frame(s) or screen(s) • label bearing a title that is permanently printed on or affixed to the resource, excluding accompanying textual material or a container Example: a label on a videodisc OR • embedded metadata in textual form that contains a title (e.g., metadata embedded in an MPEG video file).

  7. Preferred Source of Information • Another source forming part of the resource itself, giving preference to sources in which the information is formally presented (includes guides and other accompanying material for comprehensive descriptions and publisher-supplied containers) Alternative: • Use an eye-readable label bearing a title that is permanently printed on or affixed to the resource (excluding accompanying textual material or a container) in preference to the title frame or frames, or title screen or screens.

  8. Note on Source of Title Make a note on the source from which the title proper is taken if it is a source other than the title frame or title screen of a resource consisting of moving images.

  9. Statement of Responsibility • A statement relating to the identification and/or function of any persons, families, or corporate bodies responsible for the creation of, or contributing to the realization of, the intellectual or artistic content of a resource • Examples: Directors Producers

  10. Statement of Responsibility Excludes: • Performers, narrators, and/or presenters in a motion picture or video recording • persons who have contributed to the artistic and/or technical production of a resource • persons, families, or corporate bodies responsible for the publication, distribution, or manufacture of a resource

  11. Recording Relationships: Contributors Contributor: a person, family, or corporate body contributing to the realization of a work through an expression • Examples: Actors, narrators, screenwriters • RDA does not require recording of contributors • BIBCO Standard Record: recommends “cataloger’s judgment for contributors to the resource beyond the principal creator of the work”

  12. Relationship Designators Common to Moving Image Materials • Choreographer • Composer • Director • Director of photography (use for cinematographers) • Filmmaker • Interviewee • Interviewer • Producer • Production company • Screenwriter

  13. Extent • For video files, specify the number of files • For online resources, record extent as “1 online resource” followed by … format specific terminology 1 online resource (1 video file) 1 DVD-ROM (1 video file)

Playing Time, Running Time, etc. • Record the playing time stated on the resource • If not stated on the resource • record if readily ascertainable • Approximate if possible • Omit if necessary Optional addition • If the actual playing time differs significantly from the time stated on the resource, record the stated time followed by … the actual playing time

Video Characteristics Broadcast Standard: A system used to format a video resource for television broadcast • HDTV (High Definition Television) • Used in the U.S. and Europe • NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) • Used in Canada, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Taiwan, the U.S. and other countries

  25. Video Characteristics Broadcast Standard: • PAL (Phase Alternate Line) • Used in most of Europe, most of Africa, China, India, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, North Korea, and other countries • SECAM (Sequential Color with Memory) • Used in eastern Europe and France

Authorized Access Point for the Work • For motion pictures, videos, video games, etc., construct the authorized access point representing the work by using the preferred title for the work (see 6.2.2). • Make additions if necessary to make the access point unique. • Always begin with the form element “motion picture” or “television program” • Other elements: date of work, place of origin of work, another distinguishing characteristic of the work
