European and Government • EU – new programmes coming on line • EU partners can be found through EM European Office • Government funding ties in with each departments’ priorities – not just DCMS • Examples – NHMF & Museums Grants, ISB, GAF2

Landfill taxes • Created in 1997, over £700m raised • 2003 directed to fund community and environment projects within 10 miles of landfill site (some now limit to 5) • In East Northamptonshire, Cory, SITA, Hanson, Shanks, Biffa, King’s Cliffe, Thornhaugh
Charitable Trusts • Can be geographically limited • Often have set themes to support • Grants given can range from very small to very large • Are usually only available to charitable bodies, BUT some accept not-for-profit
Business Trusts • As well as giving grants, may give goods or encourage staff in community work • Can be national (Sainsbury’s) but often have links with local area (Co-op)
Local Council Grants (ENC) • Village / Community Halls • Sports & Leisure • Arts & Heritage • Historic Buildings • Business & Tourism • Community Safety
Getting Funding • Must have a project • Must meet funder’s criteria • Must have bank account • Must have a constitution • Charitable Status • Willingness to enter into Partnerships
Project Details • Why? • What? • Who? • When? • Where? • How? • How Much?
Project Planning • Clear understanding of objectives • Clear understanding of capacity • Ability to manage finance • Appropriate timescales • Continuous evaluation • Risk management
In Conclusion • Start with a project you want to do, then look for funding • Make sure you have the capacity to run the project • Getting the funding is only the first step –and may in some cases be the easiest!
