  4. IN RUSSIA • POL – Allowed local rulers to control country if they paid tribute • ECO - Disrupted agriculture, but encouraged trade • REL- Converted to Islam, but allowed Christianity

  6. IN CHINA • POL • Mongols ruled & held high positions • YUAN DYNASTY • Foreigners had lower level positions • ECO – Encouraged trade (as far as Europe)

  7. CHINA • REL – Tolerated all religions but favored Lamaist Buddhism • Due to elements of magic • Similar to shamanism • SOC - Did not mix with Chinese • Did not allow intermarriage or Chinese to learn Mongolian language
