  2. When should we meet an Infertility Specialist ? • Inability to conceive after 12 months of trying for a pregnancy (if you have never conceived earlier) OR • After 6 months of trying, if you have had a pregnancy earlier)

Problems in the female: Poor ovarian reserve Blocked Fallopian tubes Hormonal problems like PCOS, Hypothyroidism Large Fibroids Adhesions in uterus Tuberculosis Problems in the male: Impotence Low/ weak/ abnormal sperms Absence of sperms Varicocoele Hydrocoele What are the causes of Infertility?

  4. What tests are done for Infertile couples? Tests for males: -Semen Analysis- done after 2 to 3 days of abstinence -USG and Doppler of the scrotum -Hormones like Testosterone, SH, LH

  5. Tests for females • Ultrasound of the uterus and ovaries • Hormones like FSH, LH, TSH, Insulin • Tube test (HSG- hysterosalpingography) • AMH-Anti Muellerian Hormone • Folliculometry

  6. What are the treatments for Infertility? • Timed Intercourse(TIC) • Ovulation Induction and TIC • IUI- Intrauterine Insemination after Ovulation Induction with medicines or injections • Laparoscopy/ Hysteroscopy • IVF (Invitro fertilisation) • ICSI (Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection)

  7. What is IUI? • IUI is Intrauterine Insemination • Here, the husbands sperms are prepared in the lab and transferred into the uterus by a fine cannula • Done for patients with: -Low sperm count -Ejaculatory disorders -Hostile Cervical mucus -Unexplained Infertility
