  4. Eligibility Requirements • Any student currently enrolled at Pittsburg State University is eligible for services. • Spouses of Students can receive services after paying a student health fee. Services are not available to other dependents. • SUMMER SERVICE: Students who were enrolled for the spring semester, not attending in the summer session, but pre-enrolled for the fall semester, are eligible with payment of the summer student health fee.

  5. Student Health Fees • Full –time students $84.00/semester • Medical building assessment $12.00/semester • Covers unlimited medical visits at no additional charge. Special exams and surgical procedures incur additional greatly discounted charges.

  6. Operational Budget • Student fees: $1,077,000 • Revenue from procedures $ 200,000 (meds, surgical, lab) $1,277,000 Expenses: • Salaries, Medical supplies, Utilities, Bldg. Maintenance $1,270,000

  8. Confidentiality In efforts to protect patient confidentiality, the Student Health Services is compliant with HIPAA Standards and Regulations. We do not release private health information about a student without that student’s written permission, except in the case of imminent danger to themselves or others, child/dependent abuse, court order, or where otherwise required by law. *Notations of counseling services or health services are not part of a student’s academic record at PSU.

Student Health Services • Walk-ins, on a first come, first serve basis, with emergencies taking precedence • Can also make appointment, which makes visits faster • Self Check-in • Gorilla Wellness-on-line appointment scheduling • Visits at no charge, with additional costs for pharmacy, lab work, specialty appointments, and school-related physicals

  12. Insurance Information Student Health Services will file claims to the State of Kansas Student Health Insurance. (Refer to your policy for specific coverage). For all other health plans, a receipt can be provided to you to file with your insurance carrier.

Electronic Medical Records • Student Health Services uses an electronic medical records system called Point and Click Solutions. • Secure server housed separate from our office within Information Services. • This allows for better care of the students in an effort to focus on both the mental health and physical health.

  18. Outpatient Medical/Surgical Services • Common Illness – Respiratory Infections, UTI’s, Flu Syndrome, Allergies. • Injuries – Orthopedic injury, back pain. • Surgical procedures – Laceration repair, lesion excision, I&D, wart hyphrecation, • Recovery Room – Observation and IV Therapy.

  23. Vaccines • MMR • Measles, Mumps, and Rubella • Should have 2 shots in lifetime • Meningitis • Gardisil • Varicella Booster • Flu

  24. Meningitis • All students living in the dorms • Athletes • Bacterial Infection that can cause death, but is very preventable with vaccine • Spread through respiratory secretions

  25. Gardisil • Vaccination for HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) • STD that can cause cervical cancer and genital warts • Recommended for women only age 9-26

  26. Varicella Booster • Chicken pox vaccine • Need to have second shot if received the first as a child • No need for vaccine if had chickenpox

  27. Influenza (Flu) • Given in the Fall • Must be given each year • Very important for anyone with chronic illnesses, children, and the elderly • Seasonal and H1N1

  31. Mental Health Counseling Services are offered to help students with a variety of problem areas including: • Depression, anxiety, attention (ADHD) • Family problems, communication skills • Relationships, self-esteem • Stress, substance abuse/misuse

  32. Building Stronger Gorillas StrengthsQuest • A program that focuses on the strengths of college-age students • Uses the Clifton StrengthsFinder to find students 5 most prominent themes that can be used to facilitate success in their academics, career, and relationships

Center for Student Accommodations • Provides support services to students with Learning Disabilities or Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder • Services provided include: • Testing modifications • Assistance in understanding and completing assignments • To Qualify: • Be admitted to PSU • Make an appointment to visit with an assistant in the Center for Student Accommodations • Send a copy of your most recent IEP, 504 Plan or documentation from a doctor stating the nature of your learning disability Kelly Heiskell, EdS Interim Coordinator of the Center for Student Accommodations
