Google Chat- Perfection • Equal Partners • Time management • Task quality • Educational terminology • Special education standards the cognitive processes are normal, reading is above avg, math is avg but communication is 1 standard deviation below lower that average in communication and social portions of the we need to determine a measurable goal for the student's cognitive progress WRAT scores were 485 and 490 and 480 but what is the scale for the test?

  14. Google Docs • What is it? • What was required to get started? • Students signed up for free Google Account • Sent instructor Account Info via G-Mail. • In lower grades teacher could create accounts and provide login information to students and parents. Google Docs in Plain English

Google Forms • What are Google Forms? • What were the advantages? • Students were already signed up and the communication pattern used for delivering the survey(s) was already established. • Free unlimited response survey tool. • Easily delivered G-Mail. No need to access another service for completion. • Easy for instructor to create survey, read results, and export into statistical package. Using Forms in Google Docs

Collaborating in Google Docs • A brief overview • What was the activity? • Two assignments: Fictional Student, and IEP • Students formed work groups, with each person taking on a different role for the IEP assignment. • Templates were created for each assignment and shared with each student group Google Docs. • Students were instructed to complete assignments at a distance. Google Docs: A Love Letter

  18. Recommendations • Dedicate as much or more effort to instructing the students on effectively collaborating on a written document as you do with showing them how to use the technology tool. Here is a great resource we found after the class. See Weekly Reader handout!!

  19. Recommendations • If designing templates for students to edit, use a different color for your original font than what the students will be using. Instruct them to use a different color.

  20. Recommendations • Spend extra time discussing the potential real-life application of this tool to other processes that students will experience in the future in order for them to understand the full potential of using such a tool.
