  3. Mobile technology • Game device: PSP, Nitendods, • Mobile phones: i-phone, windows mobile, android, blackberry… • i-pod touch, mp3 player • Small video camera • E-book readers • Netbook, UMPC • Voting device • Other portable devices using in labs

Mobile technology used in our MoleNet project • Netbook • Portable: tutors can use netbook to access teaching materials and Internet – teaching becomes more flexible • smart phones • Windows mobile: used in Skills for Life program with resources created by MyLearning author(model: HTC touch 3G); used in PGCE course (model: HTC Touch Pro2) • i-phone: used in PGCE course (model: i-phone 3GS) • Android mobile: test open source applications and mobile interface for Moodle • mp3 player • Record lecture audio and upload on mobile learning course page • Record research interview (Note: media converter could be used to convert files into appropriate format. Eg. Oxelon, format factory…) • Small video camera • Record lectures (literacy) and export to students’ mobiles

Potential Use of mobile technology in T&L(comments from different centres) • Creative arts: • use PSPto take audio and video of lectures and upload to Moodle VLE • CBCT: • Adopt m-learning strategy on top of the traditional e-learning approach • Sixth form: • Video student activities (eg. trips, summer camp) • HE- School of Business • Level one student: Use multimedia functions of mobile phone: take pictures, videos

Potential Use of mobile technology in T&L(comments from different centres) --- continued • BTEC in business studies: video student activities • Use game device to do test, quiz during the class • Childhood studies: • video and take pictures of display, physical activities to share with students

  8. Challenges (comments from workshop participants) • Technology issues: • compatibility • multi-platform • manage different phones in the class • Constraints: • blocked sites (eg. Facebook, blogs) due to college policy • Concerns: • cost, • time, • technical support, • culture change, • staff knowledge and skills • College level: • lack of infrastructure
