Ontario Health Profile: Purpose and products • A set of ten population health monitoring “stories” that feature key public health issues in Ontario • Expands our understanding of the health of Ontarians • Equips decision-makers and practitioners with the information they need to take action • Explores new and innovative approaches to accelerate the dissemination and use of population health monitoring • Summary infographics (topic “primer”) • Supplementary data tables at the public health unit level • Expanded web-based report with interactive data visualizations 2

3. Turning the OHP infographics into an online interactive web-report • PHO’s Ontario Health Profile (OHP) was envisioned as a multi-product initiative • The initial scope of the content was greater than could be included in an infographic (both data analysis and interpretive text) • OHP web based report elaborates on the same 10 stories with interactive data visualizations and more interpretive text http://www.publichealthontario.ca/en/DataAndAnalytics/Pages/Ontario-Health-Profile.aspx

11. Development process • Original data analysis completed in Fall 2013 using mostly readily available sources (e.g., using IntelliHEALTH, CCHS Share File, iPHIS) • Software selected was chosen due to ease of content creation and ability to put on PHO website without need for additional infrastructure or costly server software • Aggregate datasets with pre-calculated results were used for data visualizations • Quality assurance process to verify correctness of data, appropriateness of data visualization and associated hover-over information once results were loaded
