  3. People with intellectual disability in Italy receive the following answers after school: - day care centers - residential communities - flat groups - assistance at home

  4. There is a big difference in solutions from North to South Italy. Our system of welfare is not sustainable anymore. What does segregation mean nowadays?

  5. How can we work today to give to all the people with intellectual disability the right to decide where to live, how to live and with whom?

  6. To answer the needs of indipendent life of people with intellectualdisabilitywehave to create a network betweenall the stakeholders: associations, policy makers, services and families. Inclusionis a greatopportunity for care givers to create growth and development in a new social and cultural contest.

  7. That doesn't mean that we don't need the services we have. That means that these services can't be the only answers. That means that we have to think in another way.

  8. Exlusion can exist everywhere: • At home with one's parents • In a service • In a flat with some friends

  9. Indipendent living doesn't mean: I can do everything on my own. Indipendent living means: I have the right to choose and to get all the supports I need.

  10. The right way for a realindipendent living, where the person can finallychoose, is to reduce the addiction and promote more autonomy. Thatmeansthateverywhere a person with intellectualdisabilitylives (even with complexsupportneeds) thisperson must have the opportunity to choose.

  11. Wellness and quality of life mean that we must be able to choose the right mix between support and indipendence. And that will change all life long. The needs we have at 20 are completely different from the needs we have at 40 or 60, or even at 80.

  12. That means that all the stakeholders HAVE to work together to find the best solution for that particular person. That means that we have to plan together new possible including answers.

  13. CRPD art.19 Indipendent living and inclusion in the society people with disability don't have to be obliged to live in a way they don't want

  14. Anysolution, anyanswerwithout the agreement of the person with intellectualdisabilitymeanssegregation. Segregationdepends from how life isgoing on, from whatkind of supports I need and I get, and segregation can existreallyeverywhere.
