Types of Conditional Sentences • 1:Real (First) Conditionals • Asking or talking about something that is quite possible or real to happen. • If+ Present Tense: gives future meaning. • If+ sub (present tense’ clause)+ ,+ sub+ will+ verb (base form without TO)… • Examples: • What will you do if it rains? • If it rains, I will buy an umbrella.

  14. 2:Present Unreal (Second) Conditionals • Asking or talking about imagined situations /consequences now ( which doesn’t have a real possibility). • If+ Simple Past: gives present meaning. • We use “would” • If+ sub (simple past tense’ clause)+ ,+ sub+ would+ (base form without TO)… • What would you do if it rained? • If it rained, I would buy an umbrella.

  15. 3:Past Unreal ( Third) Conditionals Asking or talking about imagined situations/ consequences in the past ( unreal possibilities). If+ sub (past perfect tense’ clause)+ ,+ sub+ would +have +past participle form of the verb+… Examples: What would you have done if it had rained? If it had rained, I would have bought an umbrella.
