Background cont… UNC History • The University was chartered by the North Carolina General Assembly in 1789. • UNC’s first student, Hinton James, arrived in February 1795. • UNC was the first public university in the United States to open its doors. • UNC is the only public university to graduate students in the eighteenth century.

Information Technology Services ITS’ Mission • To empower the University community through information technology by: • Providing reliable IT infrastructure • Maximizing the utility of IT assets • Leading the development of the University’s IT strategy • Developing and implementing standards and services consistent with the IT strategy • Providing leadership and guidance in the use of IT

Communication Technologies Organizational Chart Responsible for campus-wide networking and telephony infrastructure.   11. Enterprise Applications Organizational chart Responsible for developing and implementing software solutions to meet customer and Enterprise needs across the University. Includes the implementation of ConnectCarolina which is transforming multiple administrative systems of the University into a flexible single system.   12. Finance and Administration Organizational chart Provides financial management, human resources support and administrative services to ITS, particularly the CIO office. Manages the areas of financial planning and budgeting, human resources, benefits, parking, facilities management, facility-related security and more.   13. Information Security Organizational chart Oversees security for the University’s electronic information. Responsible for coordinating and ensuring the University’s information security is consistent with or exceeds industry best practices and meets the University’s compliance obligations. Aims to provide a world-class computing infrastructure in addition to other technology tools and capabilities to support the needs of research faculty and staff.
