  2. OBJECTIVE • Students will be able to define personification. • Students will make their own personification examples. • Students will be able to explain why the use of personification in writing is important.

  3. Definition

  4. So what is personification?

  5. Personification is • Personification is a form of figurative language • Writers use it to give human qualities and characteristics to objects.

  6. Why is using personification in writing a good thing? • When a writer uses personification, it makes their writing better. • They get style points for their writing. • Having a unique style is important and appreciated. • Style is a unique way each person writes.

  9. Can a camera really love you? • Can a computer really hate you? Do these object have feelings?

  10. Now you write 2 examples of personification in on your notebook.

Characterization is revealed directly or indirectly. • Directly is when the writer tells the audience what the personality of the character is. • Example: The patient boy and the quiet girl were both well mannered and did not disobey their mother. • Explanation: The writer is telling the audience the personality of these two children. The boy s “patient” and the girl is “quiet” • There is evidence in the text!
