  1. Mars Data Workshop Mars Express Radio Science MaRS Data Products, Part I Martin Pätzold, Silvia Tellmann Rheinisches Institut für Umweltforschung RIU Abt. Planetare Forschung Universität zu Köln ESAC 9th June 2008

  2. MaRS data flow: New Norcia NNO RIU

  3. MaRS data flow: DSN RIU

  4. Data Products Level-1a: raw data products from the ground stations NNO and DSN NNO: IFSM in ASCII format DSN: ODF or RSR in binary format Level-1b: translated Level-1a into sorted ASCII Level-2: calibrated sorted frequency file same format for all ground stations regardless of recording mode

  5. Level-2 data products • Level-2 frequency data files contain for each single observation (occultation): • Ground received time (UTC) in ISO-format, in fraction of day of year and as ephemeris time (seconds) including leap seconds • Distance: closest approach of the ray path to the planet • Received frequency • Predicted frequency • Tropospheric correction from meteo data at the ground station site • Frequency residuals • Received signal level • Differential Doppler

  6. Level 2 data products • There is one Level-2 data file for each observation, for each frequency and for each channel: • NNO IFMS: • Three IFMS receiver with two Doppler channels each • IFMS 1: X-band Doppler channel D1, D2, ranging channel, AGC 1, AGC2, meteo channel; set-up from Flight Dynamics • IFMS 2: X-band Doppler channel D1, D2, AGC1, AGC2; set-up from MaRS; sample rate 10 samples/sec • IFMS 3: S-band Doppler channel D1, D2, ranging channel, AGC1, AGC2; set-up from MaRS; sample rate 10 samples/sec • DSN: • X-band Doppler file, Doppler file • X-band ranging, S-band ranging • Meteo file

  7. MaRS archived data sets • There is one MaRS data set for each observation, containing: • All Level-1a files as recorded • All Level-1b files • All Level-2 data files, frequency prediction files, SPICE kernels, meteo files, Earth ionospheric correction files, documentation etc.

  8. Radio Science file name convention RGGTTTTLLL_SSS_yydddhhhh_QQ.eee

  9. Radio Science file name convention RGGTTTTLLL_SSS_yydddhhhh_QQ.eee Data type (long list) Processing level: L1a, L1b, L02, L03, L04 Data source: IFMS, ODF, RSR + channel Ground station DSS number; NNO=32 Spacecraft: M, V, R

  10. Radio Science file name convention RGGTTTTLLL_SSS_yydddhhhh_QQ.eee Time of first data sample: year, DOY, hh:mm Version number from processing software File extension: DAT, TAB, TXT, LBL each DAT, TAB, TXT has a PDS (PSA) label file (LBL)
