  3. Was there a clue in the URL that it was an unreliable resource?

  4. No, not really. The URL looks legitimate. legitimate URL extensions: .net .org .com .gov

  5. When was this page last updated?

  6. The date is recent so we know someone checks on this site regularly. Wait a minute! Notice the note under date Note: content veracity not implied What does veracity mean?

  7. Veracity = truthfulnesstruthfulness of content cannot be implied

  8. Can you contact the creator of this site easily?

  9. You can send feedback but read the fine print.

  10. Under DHMO related Info: When you click on the links, is the information found, actually about DHMO?

  11. National Consumer Coalition Against DHMO comments on DHMO but check out the URL. It is still in their site

  12. These link to legitimate sites but do not contain information aboutDHMO. Try searching for DHMO on one of these sites.

  13. Check out Press Kit. What clues do you find that it is a hoax?

  14. Did you put in username and password? What did you find?

  15. Articles stating DHMO is water.

  16. What clue does the URL provide that this is a personal page? (Hint: what in the URL is unusual looking?)

  17. It’s called a tilde ~ and indicates a personal webpage

  18. Can you find any contact information?

  19. Does this look reliable?

  20. This site definitely has a bias. The information would not be reliable.

  21. Can you get to the home page?

  22. Try truncating the URL. Highlight text back to M in .COM then delete. Click Go to go to home page Does this have anything to do with DHMO? This is another clue that this is not a reliable source

  23. Finally, Is Wikipedia a reliable source?

  24. This is a resource that can be modified by anyone. If you use this site make sure you verify the information with another source.
