  3. You looked at… • Gender • What color they are wearing • Accessories • Hair • Where they are in the room • Their role • What are they doing

Specific examples: • Gender- boy, girl, man, woman • Clothing- What color and type they are wearing- Blue jacket, red shirt • Accessories- glasses, hat, big earrings • Hair- style, color and length • Where they are in the room- in ASL it is not impolite to point • The role they are in could be specific and different from other people in the room

  5. Eye contact and eye gaze • Eye contact is looking at the person/people you are talking to. • Eye gaze is what you are talking about. *Danna, hide the next slide. 

  6. Let’s take a slo-mo look • Describe where something is in the room. Slow motion, emphasizing eye contact and eye gaze.

  7. Students try Taking turns, explain to your partner where a specific person is in the room without using that person’s name. Your partner should be able to tell you the name of the person you are describing. If they do not know his/her name, they will need ask affirming questions to make sure you are talking about the same person. When you are satisfied you are indeed talking about the same person. Then it is their turn. Continue to do this until I stop you.

  10. Activity instructions • Each of you will be given a name of the person you are supposed to ask about. • I will be it first. • I will call on one person to come ask me: “Do you know who _________ is?” • I will explain using sign language, eye gaze and eye contact. • The person who asked me the question will go to that person, tap them on the shoulder, introduce themselves. • Now the person whom he/she tapped will ask him or her: “Do you know who ____is?” and we will continue until everyone has had a chance to play.

  11. In the event you don’t know who the person is whose name you got, you must let me know before we begin the activity.
