  1. Morbid anatomy 401 Pathology of Bacterial disesaseCampylobacteriosis (Vibriosis ) presented By : Ahmed ElgendyUnder supervision of Dr / ShereinSaeid

  2. Abortion in domestic animals is expulsion of fetus before the development is sufficiently advanced to allow survival due to inflammatory reactions in uterus ( metritis ) and Placenta ( Placentitis ) the aborted feti can be dead or alive at the time of abortion but most are dead…. Bear in your mind the following points 1-In any Farm regardless of the purpose for raising them Abortion is considered YOUR MOST DEADLIST Enemy due to Devastating economic losses ( Stormy abortion in cattle farm ) 2-Leptospira Listeria Brucella and campylobacter species are bacterial agents inducing abortion HOWEVER abortion is not restricted to these agent ( abortion is Multicausal )

  3. Background of Campylobcter1-Gram negative curved rods 2-Campylobacter species are found in the intestinal and genital tract of domestic animals and are widely distributed geographically 3-the principal disease conditions associated with infection are either diarrhea or genital causing infertility or abortion 4-Camplyobcter were previously classified inside the genus vibrio later on separated from the genus Vibrio due to difference In G+C content ( 40 to 50 in vibrio and 30 to 35 in campylobacter )

  4. Capmylobacteriosis is a group of diseases affecting different species of animals Caused by Campylobacter speices In cattle Bovine genital campylobcterosis caused by C.fetus subspecies veneralis In ewes Ovine genital campylobacteriosis caused by C.fetus subspecies fetus or C.jejuni

  5. Avian vibronic Hepatitis caused by C.jejuniIntestianlcampylobacteriosis by campylobacter organisms particularly C.jejuniBOVINE CAMYLOBACTERIOSIS caused by byC.fetus subspecies veneralisRoute of infection : Coitus or artificial insemination It is transmitted venereally and can survive for some time on the vaginal mucosa, but the cow must become pregnantfor it to establish in the uterus.

  6. NB : Bulls can act as asymptomatic carrier (Survive in the glandular crypts of the prepuce . They are structurally unusal in that they possess a microcapsule of S Layer which consists of high weight molecular protein confers resistance to phagocytosis and enhance survival in the genital tract ) also the MO can persist in the vagina for longer period .Pathogenesis by means of hematogenous route Signs of disease include :- 1-Temporary infertility associated with early embryonic death

  7. 2- Return to estrus at irregular periods 3-Occasionally sporadic abortion PM Lesions Placenta Gross ( Macroscopic findings )Edema of intercotyledonaryarea(between fetal membranes and uterine mucosa) with coagulative necrosis between fetal and maternal portions of the placentome with fewer organisms in the desquamated chorionic epithelial cellsFetal lesions are non-specific

  8. Ovine campylobacteriosis differ in the following points 1-The organisms are transmitted by ingestion and abortions occur in outbreaks. Infection of the pregnant uterus results in late-term abortion or the birth of live, but sick lambs.2-characterized by late abortion 3-PM lesions in the fetus is hepatic necrosis (Multifocal )

  9. Microscopically, 'chorioallantois is infiltrated by a mixture of cells, mainlyneutrophils. Campylobacter organisms are abundant among the inflammatory cells.
