You just completed your job interview. What should you do next? • Follow up. This is an important step in the interview process. • Key points of following up: • Decision making • Thank-you notes • “Follow up” • Moving on • An advice from the authors
Decision Making • After an interview, consider whether you would take that particular job over similar alternatives. • “Any job is better than no job, it is more often true that the wrong job is a disaster.” • Once you submit an application and resume to a workplace, continue to find other places to apply to.
Thank-you Notes • For each interview, send a thank-you note to the interviewer. • In the forms of: • Email • Handwritten on stationary • Standard business letter • Check for misspelled words, especially names. • Use the correct format. • Reference- http://adresnet.com/businessletter.html
“Follow-up” • Contact the interviewer one week after the hiring decision date. • If rejected, ask what you could have done better. • If you have decided against the company, follow-up anyways for good practice
Moving On • If rejected from a position, brush it off and keep going. • Recall what you did well and learn what could have been done differently. • Every interview, regardless of outcome, strengthens your skills for your next interviews.
One Last Step… An advice from the authors “Enjoy your life…Don’t postpone fun until after you get your new job. Enjoy your life to the best of your ability right now.” “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” –John Lennon
Conclusion We will all face interviews in our near future as we come to a conclusion with our undergraduate career within the next year. Remember to make decisions, write thank-you notes, follow-up, move on, and have fun! Any questions?
