  1. Mobile Communication MMS

  2. Generic Error Handling Mobile Communication In the situation where the MMSC or VAS application receives a request which it cannot process, then a generic error notification can be used. The generic notification always contains the ID of the corresponding request <value assigned to transactionID parameter> to which it relates.

  3. Generic Error Handling Mobile Communication • In the event of error, the MMSC notifies the VAS application of a generic error with the MM7_RS_ERROR. • This response is composed of IE/parameters which include: • Transaction ID • Message Type • MM7 version • Error Status <this will have a status code> • Error text <text description of error> • Request status detail <human readable details>

  4. Generic Error Handling Mobile Communication • Further the VAS application notifies the MMSC of generic error with MM7_VASP_error.RES response, this is composed of the same IE/parameters: • Transaction ID • Message Type • MM7 version • Error Status <this will have a status code> • Error text <text description of error> • Request status detail <human readable details>

  5. Pros and Cons of MMS Mobile Communication • MMS represents a huge evolutionary step from EME in the messaging roadmap, comparing with SMS and EMS, MMS has the following advantages. • Multimedia messages can contain wide range of content formats such as colour images, animations and multimedia slideshows. • Compared to other messaging, interpretability between MMS and the Email service has been scientifically improved.

  6. Pros and Cons of MMS Mobile Communication • MMS represents a huge evolutionary step from EME in the messaging roadmap, comparing with SMS and EMS, MMS has the following advantages. • MMS is well integrated with innovative devices/services such as camera accessories, remote photo albums. • MMS is a future-proof technology and will be the subject of many

  8. Pros and Cons of MMS Mobile Communication • On the other hand, the following drawbacks have been identified for MMS, • Unlike EMS, MMS requires several network infrastructure extensions in order to operate properly, <i.e. WAP gateway> • Few mobile network operators offer direct connectivity to their MMSCs for content providers. This has resulted in many content providers using WAP push as the only method available to deliver 'rich content' to mobile handsets. WAP push enables 'rich content' to be delivered to a handset by specifying the URL (via binary SMS) of a pre-compiled MMS, hosted on a content provider's web server. A downside of WAP push is that from a billing perspective this content is typically billed at data rates rather than as an MMS. These charges can be significant and result in 'bill shock' for consumers.

  9. Pros and Cons of MMS Mobile Communication • On the other hand, the following drawbacks have been identified for MMS, • Although the standard does not specify a maximum size for a message, 300 kB is the current recommended size used by networks due to some limitations on the WAP gateway side
