Federated Innovation and Knowledge Centre EIT BME http://eit.bme.hu/index_eng.html Contact person: Dr. Kalman Kovacs director,kovacsk@mail.bme.hu EIT BME Supervisory Body:Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME)www.bme.hu/?language=en • BME is the leader in Hungarian technical higher education. • Nobel Prize: György Oláh (1994), Dénes Gábor (1971), Jenő Wigner (1963), • Excellent engineers in space research and space technology: Zoltán Bay,Tódor (Theodor) Kármán, Ferenc Pavlics, Antal Bejczy. • The number of students in 2013: 24,469 (20,642 full-time). • BME employed 2,793 persons, included 1,297 FTE for research and education. 969 full-time teachers - 714 qualified (73.7%). • The annual budget of BME for 2012: 110 M EURO, of which subsidy amounted to 49 M EURO (45%). • Webometrics 2012 ranks BME as the best Hungarian university, 277th globally. BME is the most successful Hungarian institution in EU FP6 and FP7 programs. • 73 departments of 8 faculties encompass the research and education activities of the university • CAMPUS: Total area of BME’s facilities 315,000 m2.

Federated Innovation and Knowledge Centre EIT BME Contact person: Dr. Kalman Kovacs director,kovacsk@mail.bme.hu • EIT BME was created at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics of BME in 2009 • to stimulate the research and development activity • to coordinate the research and development activities at faculty and university level • to contribute in the utilization of results. • EIT BME operates as a R&D service centre. BME EIT’s activity is focused on Promotion of the research-development activity of the Faculty and theUniversity; Supporting the utilization of research accomplishments (e.g. research spin-off) Initiating cooperation with other tertiary institutions, industrial companies and other domestic and international organisations; Offering project preparation and project management services to Departments and Research Groups; Assisting the successful participation of Departments and Research Groups in domestic and international tenders, and joint projects with companies. Number of staff-members: 2011 2012 2013 12 (FTE 9)10 (FTE 8) 13 (FTE 11) The average project management cost is 6%. Director: Dr. Kálmán Kovács, associate professor at BME VIK Member of the Hungarian Space Board (President 1995-1998, 2002-2013), former Minister of informatics and communications (2002-2006).

In the frame of this, it employed nearly 2,200 persons in over 5,000 contracts. The projects involved the creation of over 20 patents and nearly 1,200 articles and studies.
