This lesson by Saskia Hélène Menting for the CLIL Prime Erasmus+ Project explores the critical issue of plastic pollution in our oceans. Highlighting the alarming facts about plastic waste, including over 5 trillion pieces of plastic floating in the Pacific Ocean and the devastating effects on marine life, the lesson encourages proactive engagement. Participants will learn practical steps they can take to reduce their plastic usage, such as choosing reusable products, seeking alternatives, and participating in beach cleanups. Together, we can make a difference!

OVER 5 TRILLION PIECES OF PLASTIC CURRENTLY LITTER THE OCEAN Trash accumulates in 5 ocean garbage patches. The largest one is: the Great Pacific Trash Vortex It is located between Hawaii and California. This floating mass of plastic has the size of Spain and Portugal put together!
Here are some Facts about Plastic Pollution: Over the last ten years we have produced more plastic than during the whole of the last century.
50 % of the plastic we use, we use just once and throw away. We currently recycle only 5% of the plastics we produce It takes 500-1000 years for plastic to degrade.
One million sea birds and 100,000 marine mammalsare killed annually from plastic in our oceans.
